Snoring... it's not just noise

The health effects of snoring and sleep apnea (breathing stoppage during sleep) are staggering and can lead to stroke, diabetes and heart problems. In addition, people with sleep apnea are 12 times more likely to have a car accident. Poor quality sleep affects one's ability to concentrate and make decisions during the day. Other signs of Sleep Apnea are dozing off while watching T.V. and snoring.

CPAP is considered the gold standard for treating sleep apnea but unfortunately less than 50% are able to tolerate it. The CPAP mask can leak and some people find it difficult to sleep with the mask in place. Sometimes the noise of the machine can be a problem.

Today, there is an alternative... an oral appliance, similar to a mouth guard, custom made by a dentist specifically trained in Dental Sleep Medicine. Since you are not attached to anything outside of the mouth appliance, as you are with CPAP, most people find it more acceptable. For more information, call Dr Gary Cohen at (717) 304-3400.
